Rex Charms Italian Audience

Munich, 30 January 2008. Rex, a Cop’s Best Friend is still everybody’s hero. Italy’s Broadcaster RAI Uno premiered the first of eight new episodes and attracted 5.6 million viewers. With an average market share of 20.5%, Rex beat all other programs, including football. The eight new episodes were produced for RAI by Beta Film, who worked closely with Peter Hajek, the original creator of Rex, a Cop’s Best Friend, and with the Austrian broadcaster ORF. Director Marco Serafini shot the new episodes throughout 2007 in Vienna and Rome.  Rex’s new police inspector partner is played by Kaspar Capparoni.
Content: The new episodes confront the full-time crime fighter Rex with dangerous and difficult crime cases in Rome. There seems to be no culture barrier between the Austrian police dog and his Italian colleagues. On the contrary, their hearts melt for the “top dog?, who sniffs out crime like no one else.
With these new episodes, the producers pick up on the previous international success of the Rex franchise. Jan Mojto’s Beta Film sold the series in over a hundred countries worldwide, which made Rex, a Cop’s Best Friend the most successful German series of all times.  The production has been translated into nine languages, including Chinese, Vietnamese and Hungarian. Another ten episodes, in addition to a 90 min European-Football-Cup special in Vienna, are in the making. In Austria the new Rex, a Cop’s Best Friend episodes will be aired in autumn.
