Beta Film’s “Velvet” conquers Italy and France - green light for second season of glamour, passion and excitement

Cannes, 7 April 2014. Beta Film kicks off MipTV with two major sales of its glittery new show Velvet, which just got the green-light for its second season. Italy's RAI Uno (TV and remake) and France's M 6 acquired the rights for the outstanding series set in the glorious 50s and 60s in a famous Madrid fashion gallery. Produced by bambu, the filmmakers of Grand Hotel, Velvet had made a primetime-winning debut on private broadcaster Antena 3 (Atresmedia) in March with 5 million viewers and an extraordinary 25 % market share.

An empire based on silk, sensuality and seduction – the dazzling Art Deco clothing store Galerias Velvet is the luxury paradise. The company heir Alberto (Miguel Angel Silvestre) and the lowly seamstress Ana (Paula Echevarria) fall in love in this glamorous world – but their relationship is not acceptable for the time in which they are living. Created by Ramón Campos and Gema R. Neira, the show (season one: 16x70 min, season two: 13x70 min) was directed by Carlos Sedes and David Pinillos.

Producer by Bambú Producciones previous series Grand Hotel, celebrated by the media as the "Spanish Downton Abbey," was sold by Beta to more than 60 territories, among them Germany, UK, US and France. RAI Uno and Cattleya currently produces a remake for Italy.

Next to Velvet Beta Film highlights at Mip the Scandinavian thriller-series Mammon, World War I-commemorating TV event movie Sarajevo, Tom Fontana's Borgia with its third and final season and the young, charming TV series Wonderland set along Sydney's glorious beachside, among others.
