Cannes, 7 April 2008. The international film and TV distributor Beta Film is coproducing and distributing the new TV movie about the life of the world-famous actress Romy Schneider. Beta announced on Monday at the television trade fair MIP TV in Cannes that shooting of the film will start in fall. The program will be available at MIP TV 2009. German actress Jessica Schwarz is scheduled to play the lead role. Beta Film also holds the rights to the legendary "Sissi" films with Romy Schneider and Karlheinz Boehm, which have been sold in 125 countries around the world and thus rank among the most successful European feature films of all times.
Award winning Jessica Schwarz (30) achieved international celebrity through Tom Tykwer's "Perfume." She was awarded the Bavarian Film Award for "Off Beat" and nominated for the German Film Award in Gold. Torsten C. Fischer ("Impossibly Yours ") will direct, the script writes Benedikt Roeskau ("Side Effects"). The film on the life of Romy Schneider will be produced by Phoenix Film and is commissioned by SWR in coproduction with WDR, ORF and Beta Film.
