Munich, 24 June 2014. Bestseller author Roberto Saviano will present the hard-hitting crime series Gomorrah at its German premiere during the Filmfest Munich. Along with showrunner Stefano Sollima, lead cast member Marco D'Amore, and producers Gina Gardini and Nils Hartmann, the journalist will explain the background of the gripping inside story of the Camorra, the fierce Neapolitan crime organization, on Sunday, June 29th. Gomorrah ran on Sky Italia this spring with phenomenal ratings of over 1.2 million viewers per episode and will bow later this year on Sky Germany as well as on Sky UK, Canal + and HBO Latin America, among others. arte will show Gomorrah in Germany and France in free-TV. Just recently, Beta Film, which has already sold the series to more than 50 territories, licensed the show to The Weinstein Company US. Shooting for the second season will start this summer.

Gomorrah has already provoked an unprecedented media echo. Variety praised the show as "excellent TV adaptation", The Hollywood Reporter named it "one of the most hotly-anticipated new international drama series", the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet stated: "Gomorrah paints a masterful, terrifying and almost uncomfortably realistic mafia portrait".

Gomorrah (12xone hour) takes the viewers to the dark and gritty streets of Naples, the inner sanctum of organized crime, the Camorra. When Pietro Savastano (Fortunato Cerlino), one of Naples' biggest and most feared Camorra bosses, is captured and sent to jail, his right-hand man Ciro Di Marzio (Marco D'Amore, "A Quiet Life") sees an opportunity to finally become the new leader. But his time has not yet come; while in jail, Pietro's wife Imma (Maria Pia Calzone) initially takes over, while Pietro's heir apparent, son Genny (Salvatore Esposito) learns the ropes in Honduras. Meanwhile, a rival clan led by Salvatore Conte (Marco Palvetti ) plots to destroy the Savastanos once and for all. The war to control "The System" has just started, in a territory that keeps fighting not to surrender to crime and lawlessness.

Stefano Sollima, helmer of the critically-acclaimed Sky Italia series "Romanzo Criminale" , serves as artistic director and directed six episodes. Award-winning directors Claudio Cupellini ("A Quiet Life") and Francesca Comencini ("ququ") directed the remaining episodes. The series shot on location over thirty weeks in Naples, Rome, Milan, Ferrara, Ventimiglia and Barcelona.
