Cannes, 12 April 2010. Effective immediately, the Beta Film joint venture AUTENTIC will be distributing the entire PBS International catalogue for Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland. On Monday, AUTENTIC and PBS International announced in Cannes that the distribution mandate comprises several thousand hours of program by the U.S. public broadcaster, including internationally renowned productions such as the science series "Nova," the reports from "Frontline" and the historical series "American Experience." AUTENTIC acquires the Pay and Free TV rights as well as the DVD exploitation of the productions. With its 360 non-commercial local TV stations, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) is the American counterpart to the public-law broadcasters of Europe and is financed chiefly by donations and government subsidies. In the U.S., PBS programs rank among the highest-quality productions. Last year, the network obtained 47 Emmy nominations, more than the major networks NBC, CBS and all the cable channels together.
AUTENTIC is also acquiring the international distribution rights for film and television productions of the Red Bull Media House, which includes such outstanding films as Willy Bogner's winter-sport lifestyle films "Fire & Ice" and "Ski into the Sun." The distribution mandate is valid for five years and also comprises current program cycles of the Austrian broadcaster “Servus TV” as well as selected titles from the Red Bull Media House like top-quality documentaries in the fields of travel and culinary arts, the concert production "Franz Welser-Moest and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra" and a two-part documentary on the Vienna Boys’ Choir.
