Munich/ Berlin, 26 February 2009. The recital of Arcadi Volodos of works by Skryabin, Ravel, Schumann and Liszt at Vienna's Musikverein on 1 March will be recorded by UNITEL CLASSICA, Sony Classical and the Japanese coproducer NHK. This is Arcadi Volodos' first TV production in more than nine years. For the first time, the outstanding Russian pianist has also given his assent to a DVD and Blu-Ray release. These recordings in High Definition and with 5.0 Surround Sound will be released along with the CD on the Sony Classical label in late 2009. The concert will be aired by the Japanese broadcaster NHK and Classica, Premiere's classical music station.
Acclaimed around the world as a "genius of the piano," Volodos has won two Echo Klassik awards as well as several German Record Critics' awards and the Gramophone Award. He was most recently honored with the prestigious annual award of the French classical music journal Diapason for his CD production "Volodos Plays Liszt" (Sony Classical).
The star pianist regularly concertizes with the world's leading orchestras and conductors, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, the New York Philharmonic and the Philharmonia Orchestra. He is currently on a world tour with a solo recital program. Among the composers featured in his recital at the Goldener Saal of Vienna's Musikverein are Alexander Skryabin ("Flammes sombres" and "Guirlandes" op. 73, and the Sonata no. 7 op. 64 "Messe blanche"), Maurice Ravel ("Valses nobles et sentimentales"), Robert Schumann ("Waldszenen" op. 82) and Franz Liszt ("Après une lecture de Dante").
