The art of the castratos continues to exert its fascination today, and,
despite the great human sacrifice it exacted, it justifies the new
assessment that she delivers. Bartoli performs music inspired by the
castrati: dazzling coloratura showpieces and moving slow arias that are
among the most difficult pieces ever written for the voice. She is
accompanied by Italy's leading period-instrument ensemble Il Giardino
Armonico under Giovanni Antonini.
